Before we start the rules, I must mention that NO REAL MONEY OR PRIZES ARE GIVEN AWAY! THIS GAME IS FOR FUN AND ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY! This whole game is just based upon the original television show, and WE ARE NOT trying to steal the game itself from its rightful owners. All trademarks/copyrights still do remain the property of FOX, Dick Clark Productions, and all affiliated companies.
THE RULES OF NET GREED
I know, people are wondering "Why do you have such a big section about rules?!" Well, we have to explain to people how to play should they not know how to play, and there are some guidelines that people must know about. So, without further ad due, here are the rules!
HOW TO PLAY THE GAME
Net Greed is played just like the original Greed TV series. We start with a qualifying question, which always has a numerical answer. All you guys have to do is e-mail me your answer. The five players closest to the correct answer, high or low, will be given the chance to play the game. Should there be a tie, the player who did not go over on their guess will be the one who gets the higher position. If there is also a tie in that, a new question will be asked. Here are the positions that contestants receive, should they make it on the team:
| CAPTAIN Closest to the answer |
HOST Will Schmarder |
|||||
| POSITION 4 5th closest to the answer | POSITION 1 2nd closest to the answer | |||||
| POSITION 3 4th closest to the answer | POSITION 2 3rd closest to the answer |
Now, to the game. Every team has a common foe, and it is called "The Tower of Net Greed". It's on the main page, and it shows how much every question is worth. Any time that a team answers a question incorrectly, the game is over, and the team loses everything. The captain, therefore, has much responsibility over the team. He/She decides exactly how far the team will go up the Tower of Net Greed. The team may stop before I ask any question and keep the cash. The captain may also reject one answer on any question and change it to one of his/her own. Here is how the questions break down:
The $25,000 question is asked to the player in Position 4. It has four possible answers, and one is correct.
The $50,000 question is asked to the player in Position 3. It also has four possible answers and one is correct.
The $75,000 question is asked to the player in Position 2. This time, it has five possible answers, but like before, only one is correct.
The $100,000 question is asked to the player in Position 1. Once again, it has five possible answers, and one is correct.
Now, should the team answer the question correctly, each member of them will have an equal share of the pot. For example, if the team answered the $25,000 question correctly, each player will have $5,000, unless the captain decided to go on to the next question.
Now, the team just correctly answered the $100,000 question correctly. At this point, the questions will get a little bit tougher. Each question will have four correct answers, and each member of the team will help answer the question. For these questions, I will always announce the category BEFORE the captain makes his decision. Here is how these questions break down:
The $200,000 question has six possible answers, and four are correct.
The $500,000 question has seven possible answers, and four are correct.
The $1,000,000 question has eight possible answers, and four are correct.
The $2,000,000 question has nine possible answers, and four are correct.
After the captain decides to try the question, but before it is asked, we activate the terminator. The terminator randomly selects any member of the team (which includes the captain), and that selected person may try to "terminate" them and take their money share by challenging them to a one question showdown, or they may decide to keep the team the way it is, and go directly to the question itself. However, to sweeten the pot, I will give the challenger $10,000 to play the challenge, whether they win, lose, or miss a question along the way. The terminator question was originally based upon speed, but to make it e-mail playable, I will ask a question with a numerical answer, just like the qualifying question. The closest to the correct answer will be the winner of the showdown. Tie rules are the same as the qualifying question. The winner of the showdown plays for the money shares of himself AND the player he/she terminates, while the loser will be out of the game. For example, if player A decided to challenge player B before the $200,000 question and player B won the challenge, player B would be playing for 2/5 of the pot, or $80,000, while player A would be out with $10,000. The other players would play for the regular $40,000.
The terminator Showdown's over, and I ask the question and give the possible answers. At this point, the team has one freebie, which can take away one wrong answer to a question at any time before the team starts giving answers to the question. The team receives it at the start of the $200,000 question, and it is the only one that they receive throughout the game.
When we go to check the answers to the questions, I will name the answers off in any order to see if they are correct. If three correct answers are checked, then I will offer the team a chance to bail out of the game and take a small consolation prize, which is usually about one-tenth of the total question amount, if the captain is not confident that the fourth answer is correct. If the captain wants to keep going in the game, then he/she must turn down the consolation prize. We will always check to see if the fourth answer is correct. On the eighth question, a consolation prize will not be offered.
SOME GUIDELINES ABOUT HOW THIS INTERNET VERSION WILL WORK
For reasons to keep the game moving, I will give the players three days to submit their answers to the appropriate e-mail address,
Should the third day fall on a weekend or major holiday, then I will extend it to either Monday, or the day after the holiday. These holidays will include any holiday that any major bank will take. This deadline will always fall at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. This is 7:00 PM for those in the Central Time Zone, 6:00 PM in Mountain Time, and 5:00 PM in Pacific Time. If you live in any other time zone, either figure out the time, or contact me and I will help you out. Please do realize that results may take a little time to put up on the site.So, you have actually decided to or are playing. PLEASE WATCH YOUR E-MAIL!! You will be notified there, as well as on this website if you are playing the game, and at what point of the game we are. On the website, we also use an easy color code to show you what is currently being played:
| This means it is being played right now. |
| This means it is not being played yet in this game. |
| This means that we have already played this portion of the game. |
When you do e-mail your responses, please keep the subject header that I provide. The heading must contain "Net Greed", which game it is, which question it is, and "answer". For example, it would be:
Net Greed Game 1 $200,000 Answer
This does help me keep things organized, and will make the game much better for the viewer, which is you!
I also encourage those who play to NOT look up the answers to the questions. Yes, I know, this does sound stupid, but there are people out there who cheat and look up the answers. It really detracts from the fun of the game. It's hard to actually figure out on a game like this who really is looking up answers and who is actually trying to play. If you do cheat, please do not play here.
Well, that's just about it for this LONG and BORING rules sheet. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, complaints, or what-not, please feel free to contact Will Schmarder, your host.
Once again, NO REAL MONEY OR PRIZES ARE GIVEN AWAY!!
